After arriving in Petaluma in 1979, it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with this town. It was a wonderful place to raise my sons. There were also many opportunities to get involved in the community: pre-school board, Site Council and the Superintendent’s Lay Advisory, PTA  and room mother were my principal volunteer efforts throughout  my sons’ school years.

I have been a life member of the Petaluma Historical Museum since I first visited our beautiful old Carnegie Library, and I joined Heritage Homes of Petaluma as well. But my first position as a volunteer for the city grew out of my longtime environmental interests and advocacy. As an avid gardener I was interested in an opening on the Tree Advisory Committee in 1997. I was appointed and worked throughout the city with neighbors who sought to add street trees to their block or increase the trees in the parks and open spaces near their neighborhoods.  Throughout my time on the Tree Advisory Committee which continued for many years as liaison while I was on the City Council, I worked on downtown tree plantings and eventually I played a supportive role in the 150 Tree Planting in celebration of our Sesquicentennial in 2008.

In 1999 I was appointed to fill a vacated seat on the Planning Commission, a position I applied for once I realized there were no women on the board, and no one who really represented the voice of the neighborhoods of Petaluma.  I served out that term and was appointed to a second term where I performed double duty as the Planning Commission liaison to the then separate Site Plan and Architectural Review Board. Because of term limits, I left the Planning Commission in 2005 and in 2006 decided to apply for the City Council.

Below are listed the most of the various groups and organizations I support and belong to.
